Tech Reflections

LI: to learn how work with wood and the tools used.

This week for Tech we started off by Mr Grundy explaining what we do. Once I finished drawing my eight designs and I chose to make a Tractor. I started cutting my wood pieces and I started on my joints. To make the joints we need to measure the width to half way, next we used a chisel to make the chisel. The tools we needed was, a chisel, saw, mallet, and a pencil. I enjoyed doing wood carving this week because we got to move on to the next step.

Today we were celebrating the SLJ participants and I was one of them. I enjoyed doing the activities, my favourite activity was creating bug out of the thing in our gardens this helped keep our learning going during the Summer Holiday. We were also getting challenges from Nano Girl, which was fun too. The prizes were presented by Mrs Grant and Miss Paleti. Congratulations to Sakshi - PBS top blogger, top commenter and top blogger for Maniakalani. I really enjoyed doing the summer learning journey because it was challenging and fun. Some of the work was fun because I could get help from my family members.

Tech Reflection

LI: to learn how to work with wood.

Our second week of tech we started using wood, with the wood we traced it to make the measurement of the toys we wanted to make. I wanted to make a digger but MR Grundy said make a tractor first and if we have time I might be able to make a Digger. We used a piece of wood to make sure the calculations are correct.

Culture is...

LI: to describe what culture is.

There is no such thing as the right culture to pick, a culture is taught and learnt. A culture is a society of people who believe in the same thing.A culture can be a society of 1,000,000 people or 2 people, it doesn't matter. A culture is a culture and is special and unique. A culture is made of history, beliefs and artifacts.A culture can be made of parts such as art, clothing, food, languages, dances and much more. These are important in a culture as they can be celebrated at different times with different people.Being in a culture isn't about what you looks or skin colour, it's about what you believe in.

Pb4L

LI: To explain to juniors how to behave on a bus.

Today's challenge was to explain to juniors how they should be during and before bus rides using PB4L. PB4L stands for proper behaviour for learning. When explaining these things to children we had to make sure that we were being positive with our suggestions so that kids wouldn’t think we were being negative with them. This task was challenging as it made think about how to word myself positively.

Maths Challenge / Distance Learning

LI:to understand the place values of tenth, one, hundred ect.

This week for our maths task we was challenged at writing down the largest six digit to the lowest six digit number. In this challenge the task at hand was figuring out the six digit number based on the clues given through the DLO. In between them were questions such as: Write down the largest six digit number with a two in the tenths place. I found this challenge interesting as I got to think harder about the number I was going to write down.

Distance Learning - Explore tool and Google

LI: to keep our learning going.

This is  my second distance learning challenge, for this challenge I made a google slid showing how to attribute with the explore tool and google.

The explore tool is a tool you can use to find images on your google slide or google draw. You can find this tool in the bottom right corner.
How to attribute:
Using the explore tool is easy, you go in the explore tool and search what you want. After you have found the image you want, you hover over the image and there will be a plus ( + ) sign and all you have to do is click the plus sign. The image will pop up with automatic attribution.

How to attribute with google:
You search any image you want to pick for whatever reason. Before you get any image you go to the top of your screen and press tools. After pressing tools you would see usage rights. Press usage rights and then press label for reuse. After pressing labeled for usage you can use the images you see. But before you get the image you have to attribute it. Pick any image you want to pick and click it then drag it to your google draw or google slide. Underneath the image you will see a world map and a text next to it, you have to press it. The link will take you to its site. You have to copy the URL by pressing, ctrl c. Under your image put a text box under it. Then press ctrl k and put the URL in the link section. Then in the text section write photo. Next you will have to find the author of the image and copy the name then link it in the text box. Lastly you will have to find the licence then copy the link and paste it in the text box.

Distance Learning - Cultural Art

 LI: to create a cultural design/pattern .

This is our first distance learning challenge of the week, we could choose any two challenges on our distance learning class site. I chose to do the Cultural Art, inspired by Raku Inoue. For this cultural art we were were asked to go in our backyard and find things we could make a cultural design or pattern out of. I chose to do a butterfly, because while I was finding things in my backyard one landed on me. to make this butterfly I used some flowers which I thought would look good on this butterfly. What I found fun was getting to explore my garden.
