Summary Waitangi

The Treaty of Waitangi is an important part of New Zealand's history. The treaty was to let the British live in NZ without having any conflict towards the Maori. The Maori also wanted to have full ownership of their lands and resources. The two versions (Te Reo Maori and English) were very different though, so they had problems. In the Te Reo Maori version they would get to keep their land and do whatever they wanted themselves. In the English treaty it was written that the crown would make the rules for the people to follow. After the treaty was signed, the Maori people felt cheated on and a conflict began between the two nations. That conflict was called the war of New Zealand.
